About Us

The Mid-Missouri Chapter of PRSA serves nearly 100 public relations professionals primarily in the Columbia and Jefferson City area, although members also participate from Fulton, Fayette, Hannibal, Rolla, Springfield and Waynesville.

Our members represent a wide variety of organizations including state government, health care, higher education, service organizations and public relations agencies.

Our goal is to help members advance their careers, their organizations and their communities by offering professional development and networking opportunities as well as promoting the highest standards of professional competence and ethics.

Chapter Activities

Monthly Meetings

The chapter usually meets the third Thursday of the month at noon, alternating meetings between Columbia and Jefferson City. At our meetings, local and regional speakers share their expertise and experience in a wide variety of public relations areas. Lunch costs $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Fall Conference

Each November, the chapter hosts a one-day conference bringing in an array of exciting speakers.

Membership Directory

An online membership directory is available to members. For information about joining, please contact Jaala Spratt.

Employment Search

As a chapter member, you have the opportunity to place your openings for a public relations professional online as well as post your own resume if you are searching for a job. Contact Sherri Baumeister if you want to post a job opening or employment search.

Communicator of the Year Award

Each year the chapter acknowledges an individual who is not a public relations professional for outstanding communication efforts. These individuals are recognized at a special luncheon meeting. Past recipients include:

  • Pete Rahn, Director, Missouri Department of Transportation
  • Elson Floyd, President University of Missouri
  • Don Laird, President, Columbia Chamber of Commerce
  • Gary Kemper, director of the Missouri Department of Corrections
  • Peggy Kirkpatrick, director of the Central Missouri Food Bank
  • David Franta, director of the Columbia Area United Way

Assistance with APR Exam

The chapter offers assistance to individuals who wish to take the accreditation exam. Currently, more than 20 chapter members are accredited by PRSA. Our chapter ranks among the highest percentage of accredited members based on membership.
